Delete Unused and Unwanted Programs
Finished playing a puzzle game but still have it installed? Had to install a program for work but only needed it one time? Delete those unwanted, unused apps and programs. Free up space and keep your computer or device running smoothly.If you do not recognize a program or app, do a Google search, "Should I delete [program name]?" There are programs that are built into your system that may sound funny but help your software run smoothly.
How to Delete Programs and Apps
Windows
- Right-click on the Windows icon in the bottom-right
- Select Apps and Features.A list of programs should appear.
- Select the program you wish to delete and click Uninstall.
Quick note: You may not be able to uninstall basic programs from Microsoft like calculator or photos. Also, you might not want to automatically delete programs from your PC manufacturer (for instance if you have a Dell computer, and see specific programs where Dell is listed along with the program name as the publisher, you should consider leaving them installed).
Mac
- Apple makes deleting programs pretty simple.
- Open the Finder window by clicking on the Finder icon.It looks like two smiling faces, usually at the bottom-left of your screen.
- On the Sidebar of the Finder window, click Applications.
- Drag any unwanted programs from the Applications folder into your Trash.If the program has a folder, click on that folder and see if there is an Uninstall program.If there is, click that and follow the instructions.
iPhone
- Do a long press on an app you no longer want.
- The apps will start to wiggle.
- Click the X in the upper-left of the app.
- When you are finished removing unwanted apps, click the home button to make the apps stop wiggling.
Android
- Go to your Settings (it looks like a gear icon).
- Scroll to and select Apps.
- Here you will see a list of all your apps.
- Click on one you don’t want anymore, and select uninstall.
Similar to cleaning out a closet, deleting programs cluttered up in the corners of your device will free you to smoothly access the programs you do use.
