Spring Cleaning: Organize Your Files

A lot of your digital frustration can come from not being able to easily find needed files and seeing your desktop full of clutter. Let’s get organized to better manage your desktop, downloads, documents, and apps.

Folders Are Your Friend

Whether you are on a Mac or PC, your computer comes with predesignated folders for music, pictures, and documents. Take a moment to move all your downloads and desktop items to their appropriate folders. Don’t forget to delete any files you know you don’t need anymore.Once you have the files in the appropriate folders, open one, your documents for instance, and see if there are files related to a similar topic. If there are, create a folder, like Financial, and put all related documents within that folder. Getting files organized and moved from your desktop helps you focus and saves you time in the long run with an organized system.

Quick Tip - Make a New Folder

Making new folders is easy.PC: To make a new folder in Windows, right-click where you want the folder to go > select New > select Folder and give the folder an appropriate name.Mac: On a Mac, go to the Finder and choose the place you want to put the new folder. In the upper menu, click File > New Folder and enter a name you wish to call the folder.

Delete Installer Files

When you install a new program, like Adobe Reader, the process usually involves downloading an installer file and then clicking on it to install the actual program. Once the program is installed, that installer file can be moved to the trash bin.
