Going Incognito, When and How to Privately Browse

Our personal devices give us email, files, favorite websites and apps at our fingertips. But there are times when you need to access those things from a public or shared device such as at a friend’s place, workplace or a hotel. Here’s one way to privately browse the web and login to your accounts.Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Edge all have a private browsing mode where the sites you visit will not be saved in the web history of the computer or device you are using. When you close the browser you are automatically logged out of any accounts. This can be helpful if you are using your friend's laptop to access your email or another account, but don't want them to be logged into your account after you leave. Another example is when you are holiday shopping for a significant other but don't want them accidentally getting any clues when they are using the computer.

How to Access Private Browsing Mode on Your Device or Computer

1. In your web browser, locate and open the menu. It will look like three dots, three bars, or say Menu.2. Click on New Private Window or New Incognito Window. This opens a private browsing window on your phone or computer. You may notice that a private browsing window is darker than a normal browser window.3. You can now browse the web and login to accounts without your web history being saved, and when you close the window you are logged out of accounts.
